MY BACKGROUND
– Teacher for 35+ yr in a variety of experiences with preschool, gr. K-12 and adults
– Wrote curriculum for a homeschool program and consulted with homeschool parents
– Worked at The Janus School over a period of 12 yrs. (with kids and adults who have Learning Disabilities)
– Worked with Discovery programs as educational therapist for 20+ years through NILD (National Institute for Learning Disabilities/Learning Development)
– Also an Instructor and conference speaker to train other teachers in the NILD program.
– Doing private tutoring & educational therapy since 2006. Study skills ADHD Coaching & Academic coaching are also offered.
– School Psychologist for charter schools, cyber schools, private schools, home school and others
CORE PRINCIPLES
Deal directly with the social and emotional aspects that impact learning
Foster trust, honesty, and mutual respect with client and family
Respect issues of confidentiality, e.g. release of information, delicate issues of teenagers, etc.
Understand principles of case management and collaborate to set goals

Create a supportive learning environment where it is safe to take risks and learn from mistakes
Foster open communication regarding grades, problems at school or work
Help parents know what is “normal,” to provide a realistic frame of reference for appropriate expectations
Educate parents as to educational therapy goals and the techniques employed to attain them
Embrace humor as a catalyst for learning; inject humor into the learning process
Validate client efforts and accomplishments through specific, informative feedback
Provide expanded input to the ongoing diagnostic process from continuous observation over time and in natural contexts
Understand and abide by Code of Ethics in all dealings with clients
